Agents must be reliable

Tom Vernon is the founder of the 'Right to Dream' academy in Ghana, which he has spent 16 years building and which is founded on many of the same values that are reflected in FC Nordsjælland, namely the ability to give talent a chance.

Part of the family

"In FCN we have a unique strategy through both our academy in Ghana, the young talents, their families and all our employees. When agents understand this strategy and invest in a long-term commitment with both us and the players, they can help in many aspects.

Agents must of course show respect for our goals and be reliable, honest and brave enough to give both us and the players the honest truth about the opportunities in the football market and not just aim for a short-term, lucrative contract, but instead help players aim for the long-term goals," says Tom Vernon.

"With both agents and players, we don't look at their nationality, but at their skills, honesty and professionalism, and whether they work hard and within our strategy.

"Agents must also understand that a club like FC Nordsjælland is a club with many young players, and therefore there is almost always a family behind each player, they must always consider and provide information when taking on the responsibility of a young player's career.

If they also understand that our club is of course also dependent on developing young players to sell on, the work of agents can be a great help in our club and organization".

"For the players, it's definitely worth a lot to have an agent who is reliable and honest. Many young players need good guidance, and of course all our staff at the club are available to them, but it is also much appreciated when they are guided by their agent on how to tackle everything from training requirements, education and what opportunities they have in the future.

It takes a village to raise a child

We have a saying from the academy in Ghana that "It takes a village to raise a child" - and it's the same at our club, where the agents we work with are part of our village and they can definitely help us develop good ones and help them progress on so many levels".

"With both agents and players, we don't look at their nationality, but at their skills, honesty and professionalism, and whether they work hard and within our strategy. With People In Sport we have had a long-standing relationship and they have proven to us many times that they are not just looking for "a new contract" with quick money as their goal.

They have always looked at what is best for the individual player as well as for us as a club, and they understand what we at FCN need. I'm sure we will also work with them in the coming years".

We work on the basis of values where we have to draw on each other's competences, so a football agent learns from a handball agent, for example, and they both also learn from our commercial people.
